Valentine’s Maternity Shoot

So for this Valentine’s, I decided to offer some mini sessions out of my home. I knew I wanted to do a Valentine’s themed set up, but I wasn’t quite sure what to do. But this was the fun part - I am a creative, after all. So I searched for inspiration online, was thinking white, red, and pink with the aim of not making it too cheesy, but then it hit me. What about an array of hanging flowers?! I mean, light pink, dark pink, and white flowers hanging from the ceiling screams romance to me! So, I got to work. After scouring Dollarama to find the right flowers, string, and crafting tools, I just had to put the old hands to work to make the vision happen.

Thankfully with this business of mine, I’m not afraid of using my time to make something beautiful. This hot-glue-gunning took hours upon hours. But I did it, I had dozens of strings with flowers or greenery attached. Next, I taped them, spread perfectly apart, to the ceiling of my studio space. It resulted in this…

Also, yes, these are screenshots of my Instagram stories… follow along.

So one of the shoots I had on day one of two for the Valentine’s minis was a maternity shoot! A married couple welcoming their first baby. What a joy, and what a joy to be apart of for me. There’s something especially magical about maternity shoots.

I ended up using the hanging flowers differently than I had planned while photographing, mostly having a bunch in my left hand to bring into the foreground for that foreground bokeh, while some draped behind the subjects. I think the result was pretty magical… let me know what you think!
