The 10-Minute Mini Session
I held outdoor mini sessions in November and December of last year in Mississauga and Oakville (Ontario). Various sessions stand out for various reasons, but this one stands out for a specific one - we did the whole thing in ten minutes.
It was extremely windy and chilly on this afternoon; I had done minis all morning in the same location on Lake Ontario and it was warm, sunny, and not windy at all. Cut to the afternoon and it was as if a tornado was about to hit. But also a snow storm. It wasn’t snowing at all but it was cold enough to be. So when it was time for this family’s session, all dressed in their finest fall attire, they took one step out of their car and just said “let’s see what we can get in ten minutes.” They had absolutely great attitudes about it all and thankfully weren’t too concerned (getting this outlook from clients is the BEST) but I was up for the challenge.
And so, the 30-minute-mini turned into a 10, and honestly, I couldn’t have been happier with how the photos turned out. Because of their positive attitude, I didn’t have to spend time re-centring the focus of the parents and could instead jump right into posing and shooting while the kids were still warm. I started with some of the standard shots so we had the necessary ones out of the way, and then continued with combinations and prompts to see what we could fit in with the remaining time. Here’s how it turned out!
